I don't know why I haven't mentioned her before, but friend of Vienna's and mine from school is a singer/songwriter in the San Francisco scene: Melissa Rapp. She has an awesome voice and writes catchy tunes: definitely worth checking out.

Also her first CD (which for regulars here might have a couple of familiar names in the credits) is on special this month at CD Baby for four dollars. Yikes. How can you go wrong?

CD Baby also offers a 30% discount if you order multiple copies of the CD. Unreal. The couple of songs I heard at Melissa’s MySpace page were enough to convince me to get the CD for myself and to grab a couple extra copies for friends I know will like her sound as well.

Thanks for the recommend, Eric! :-D

I agree. I first heard Melissa last year at Biscuits and Blues in SF, when she opened for Julia Lau. She's very good.

Are her lyrics available anywhere? I always like to do a quick run-through of lyrics before I purchase music. I think she definitely fits the bill of someone I would like, though. And right now I think I need some new music so I can listen to something else and not unintentionally make myself sick of DTTN. :)

I haven’t found her lyrics anywhere, which seems odd nowadays—most music, you just plug the song or artist name into Google and boom, you’re golden. But I find nothing for Rapp, only a few sites that apologize for not having her lyrics.

Weird.

Anyway, when I get the CD (and presuming the liner notes include the lyrics), I’ll transcribe a song or two so you get an idea of her work. In the meantime, you can hear music samples at her CD Baby page and at her MySpace page—her songs are easy to follow, no mumbling or screaming so loud it drowns out the words.

We should point out, too, that Eric (the other one) produced her first CD. :)

And that Eric (the other one) appears with his cello on a couple of tracks.
