Stageit online performance March 17 2012

Postby Pesco » Sat Mar 17, 2012 10:48 pm

Hi. Long time Vienna fan. Been to 3 shows in the past when she's been to the Right coast.

Trying to watch the show, but it's "Sold Out". What's the advantage to having a show sell out in a virtual environment? Frustrating.

Hope those that get to view it enjoy it!

It was great to hear Between and Soon Love Soon with the looper. I've been wanting to hear those ever since she started using it.

I only saw her flip the switch on the looper for Between once - wonder how she did it, or if I missed it, or if she had a foot pedal to trigger it.

Soon Love Soon wasn't rehearsed, but you wouldn't know it. All the vocal parts were there, and with percussion by tapping the mic.

She talked about Between's threes. She wasn't wearing green, and was going to create a running gag of wearing headgear and getting out a green hat, but she didn't have enough time.

She had someone from The Ark helping her out with sound. No weirdness with not being able to hear the piano when recording the backwards loop for Gravity this time.

I missed anything she may have said at the start due to not refreshing when it started. The refresh also kicked me out of chat, but it was good to see familiar handles in there!

This is my first time watching Vienna with the looper, had no idea, wasn't even expecting such a thing. Amazing what it can add to a solo show. I only saw Vienna solo once, and that was ages ago. Every other time was trio, or duo with Alex.

Can't believe that Soon Love Soon was not rehearsed. Obviously she's very adept with the looping machine by now. :)

This is way too fun. The only problem is they force the shows to be so short. And then they effectively force you out of the continuing chat as well. (Maybe it was just mine, kept refreshing every 5 seconds at the end, then I refreshed the whole page again and got completely kicked out. Using the link would not even go back, just redirected to home page!)

Fantastic show though, and great that this system is available. I know I missed whatever the last show (maybe even two) she played locally here. I think and hope it was just one I missed; I certainly didn't know how few chances I would get after that!

Weird, I'm technically still in the chat (although not saying anything).

But hi everyone! Saw the show, it was awesome, and enough people were talking about hereabouts that I decided to join. Yay!

It'll leave you in the chat as long as you don't leave that page at all (don't do a browser refresh or close the tab/window). Meanwhile, though, does the chat listing not refresh every 5 seconds? That's what it did to me. Although during the bulk of the actual show, and for a little while before showtime, it did not do that. It started doing it again about 6:45 eastern time I think. Pretty sure it's on purpose to chase people out. ;)

I've been able to stay in chat without it refreshing after the show ends, and have seen Kyler and Ben Sollee chat in there afterward. But once it's over, if you refresh you're kicked out. I haven't seen the 5 second thing, but it's really different for everyone. I know some people experience really choppy video, and I've never had that issue.

Welcome, Sorcyress, and any other newcomers! Welcome back to chigaijin!

Welcome, Sorcyress! Could have sworn I've seen your handle before. YouTube maybe?

Glad you enjoyed the show! :D

Welcome Pesco and Sorcyress!

Michele, Vienna mentioned that this was the first show for the *pedal* looper.

Wonderful to hear Daughter, Drought, Eric's Song, Unwritten Letter #1, and Between, none of which I've ever heard live (altho I guess Eric's Song was in the set at Freight and Salvage online?). If I'd had a wish-list, the only one missing would have been Decade and One. It was totally reasonable for Vienna to include The Tower, Gravity, and Soon Love Soon even though they are among her most played songs. It's always somebody's first show, and they need to hear the songs that will bring them back. They'll want the others later. I expect to hear Harbor next time, and that's ok.

Funny that Vienna made fun of Unwritten Letter as a poor tango. I'm a total sucker for all of her "dance" songs, from Unwritten Letter and Between to I Don't Feel So Well (a "better" tango?) and the world's gentlest bossa nova, Transcontinental 1:30 AM. Hopefully hear the last of those in a couple of months.

The chat window is interesting. I don't get to know the other people in a live audience that well, with a few major exceptions. Interesting to identify other nuclei of fans than the Forumites, for instance, the Cayamo crowd. I notice that people chatting are starting to include their online shows in their total of shows seen. Maybe how we see music is changing.

Someone on chat had waltzed to Between at Stanford. Legendary.

Happy to know that the audio can be that good, and I'm sure we'll get there on the video (lighting) in due course. Lots to look forward to.

Subjective highlight: Eric's Song. It's the lyrics. Always blows my mind it was written by a 19-year-old. (Gosh, could my daughter write that in 2 years? Hope not, LOL  ).

Closing thought: unexpected emotional wallop from this show; should have seen it coming. I've always wished I'd been there among the Warm Strangers in 2001 (before they could even call themselves that) and had been able to follow at least the public, post-Stanford part of Vienna's career from the beginning. This is the closest I can come to seeing a show from back then. From that perspective, watching her career unfold album by album is going to be a blast. Thanks for the idea, Amy!

Hey Pesco, I've been a fan for almost three years, but I've never been to a show.

I watched this one with a friend; my friend recently found on youtube cell phone recordings of this show from hedonist2006.

It's not the best quality, but I'm sure the user did his or her best! Enjoy if you'd like =)

This was pretty much the debut of my new laptop - hooked her up to the TV via HDMI and fullscreened StageIt. Awesome show, though the video was a little choppy for me, and I couldn't keep up with chat with the video full-screened. I'd echo Fred's sentiments about "Eric's Song," especially since learning that song is my current project. Stunning as always.

Already bought my tickets to the next two (and dodged a bullet on the DTTN show - turns out that isn't my commencement).

Catch you all at the next one :)

Well, Scot, there is a set of unfortunately low-quality videos (captured via cell-phone video recording of a computer screen) on this guy's channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/hedonist2006

Other than that, there's nothing. This lack is actually what drove me to start FRAPSing the concerts, since no one else was doing quality recordings, and I had the program, equipment, and know-how.

I agree - that was pretty low quality. Thanks for the link and for saving us from more recording like those !:)
