Absolutely. Altho he's very "country" now Chip Taylor's originally from Mt. Vernon, NY, just north of NYC, and his early years in music were spent as a songwriter in an office in the Theater District in Manhattan (could have been the famous Brill Building, or another). He told a story about meeting another young songwriter there by the name of Hendrix, who later went on to a brief but spectacular performing career--and performed Wild Thing regularly, after The Troggs made a hit of it. He and Carrie Rodriguez included both songs in their set when I saw them together last year, although passed through the "country" filter, Wild Thing came out more like Waald Thaang.
