Pomplamoose

I just had to find out who did those Christmas 2010 Hyundai commercials. They're called Pomplamoose and they make VideoSongs, an art form they define precisely on their YouTube page. I find their stuff irresistible. Try this for a start.

And all of you lucky Bay Area people can see them live, supporting the Dresden Dolls (!), on New Year's Eve!

I actually finally discovered them following a recommendation by Mr. Paul Freeman. They covered "Makin' Out," which Paul wrote with Mark Owen. Oooh 6 degrees of Vienna Teng.

Thanks! I hadn't gotten to that one yet. They are just ridiculously cute, and so are their songs. Guess there is a fair amount of interest in them, too. That one had about half a million views and over 100 pages of comments.

As for 6 degrees of Vienna Teng, I think I discussed maybe posting a thread of that (a poll, I guess) as a game. Maybe discussed it in a pm with somebody. Seemed like it might be fun if the forum gets in the doldrums sometime, but that hasn't really happened, so I think I'll hold off on it. Playing strictly by the book (not using tenuous acquaintances when solid ones are available, and of course nothing related to knowing other fans), I score 5 degrees.

I first heard of Pomplamoose on CD Baby's DIY podcast. Here is an interview they did with one of the band members, Jack Conte.

Really interesting discussion about media platforms and record labels, or the lack thereof. ;)

Enjoy!

I happened to catch Pomplamoose's weekly Tuesday night webcast lastnite. As one might expect from such a pair of media geeks, it worked really well. In addition to audio/video feed it featured real-time text chat and interactive polling (and merch/download links, naturally). And of course they were as crazy/endearing (and musical) as expected. If interested take a look at www.pomplamoose.com any Tuesday at 6:30 P.M. PST.
