Yoshi's - San Francisco - May 15 and 16 2010

Postby Fred » Sat May 01, 2010 9:33 pm

I note that on the FB page for one of the upcoming Yoshi's shows (whose URL stubbornly refuses to post for some reason--second time I've had that problem) there is an illustration that looks an awful lot like the cover for an album called "The Moment Always Vanishing" by Vienna Teng and Alex Wong (featuring a fan-art drawing, no less). That would be a very Tengian title for a live album, certainly. I wonder if there is any significance to the event or its date?

Thanks for the clarification, Michele. Whenever it comes out this spring or summer (I assume), and whatever it's called, and whatever it looks like, it's going to find fertile soil, I think. I've noticed Vienna's FB fan count is spiking like crazy.

That's from people who previously only listed Vienna in their Favorite Music on their Info page, who now also Like the fan page due to Facebook's recent changes.

In the short term yes, but that only started recently, and probably only accounts for about 1000 or so. Maybe 1500. More to the point is what's been going on during the IT tour. I signed on FB about 15 months ago and her fan base was about 6500 iirc. It hit at least 9500 before the recent FB changes. BTW the FB changes are really good for artists, since it will result in their posts being seen by more people. Also forced me to clean out my rat's nest of a profile. Who wants to link to a bunch of random movies?

It's coming out May 10! (That's the target date anyway).

And the Yoshi's shows WILL be very significant :)

Something impelled me to look in the FAQ list that serves as Vienna's "Bio" on this site. It confirms the name of the album and the month of release. I hadn't looked at the "Bio" in a long time; it's a hoot. "Does talking about yourself all the time make you feel like an egomaniac?" "Yes..." LOL

I got interested in this phenomenon and checked the pages of some of my other favorite musicians; I haven't seen anything comparable going on there. Their fan counts have been essentially unaffected by FB's new policies. So how could so many people have listed Vienna as a favorite without being Fans? Maybe many people who listed Vienna as a favorite were Friends but not Fans, for whatever reason.

Heads up: My friend just informed me that there is a huge Bay Breakers 12k marathon on Sunday May, 16. The event will close down SF roads for the runners/revelers. Though closures will probably open before the Yoshi shows take place in the evening, you may have planned to spend the day in SF, so check the closureshere and plan your day accordingly!

So has anyone arranged a Yoshi's Forum meetup yet?
Do we need a roll call?

Perhaps you're right, Scot - maybe we should have gone with the matching shirts!

Set 2:
Blue Caravan (alt version)
The Tower
Antebellum
In Another Life
I Don't Feel So Well
Brooklyn Blurs
1 br/1 ba
Radio
Augustine
Harbor
City Hall
Idioteque
Keep the Customer Satisfied

There is more of a story to the Enough to Go By from the first set, but I wasn't really involved in the planning or coordination for that one, so someone else should probably chime in.

Set 2 was a lovely concert and I am very, very glad to have been there. Thank you Vienna Teng, Alex Wong and Paul Freeman for an excellent night all around.

At long long last, the west coast forum pic! (To complement the east coast pic from the DVD taping.)

We need to Photoshop some missing people in there, though... ;)
