Red Rock Coffee Company December 19, 200... err... 9?

Postby Erik » Sun Dec 20, 2009 7:01 am

Vienna and Alex played a unique show going back to their roots at Red Rock Coffee Company this evening.

Alex braved the last flight out of JFK when the snow hit in New York and his family managed to get him here just a few minutes after the show was scheduled to start.

To compensate for the lack of percussion, Vienna took some requests, which resulted in:

A Whole New World
House
Rainwalk Song
Atheist Christmas Carol

Alex arrives:
Total Eclipse of the Wong

Whatever You Want
No Gringo
Gravity (braid version)
Homecoming
The Tower (high ceilings remix)
In Another Life
Stray Italian Greyhound
Help is on the Way
I Think Its Gonna Rain Tonight
Augustine
Antebellum
Harbor

They didn't play it safe, the crowd was swelling so much that many were turned away and we got a Disney cover... what more can you ask for from a secret show?

Erik! So quick! I guess I have to live with not posting this set list because I stayed late to talk to Vienna and Alex,
and friends. Oh well...My notes:
-I requested Olive Tree and got "Whoa! don't think I can do that yet." Haha. She needs to know all the chords, she said.
-No one volunteered to be Vienna's Jasmine in A Whole New World :( So funny that she kept on interrupting herself :)
-Rainwalk Song. Said she hadn't played it in a long time...Didn't she play that in Hawaii  Wasn't that long ago...
-Alex's soundcheck sounding like a rave which got the Total Eclipse of the Wong going. Anyone get the lyrics down?? Haha
-I requested No Gringo! And she actually played it. Up to this concert, all of my requests had been denied...Oh, the shaker wasn't available during the song, so Alex shook someone's pills(?) Got that on video.
-FORUM MENTION!!!!! I love that she lurked and read my comment about Idioteque being depressing. HAHAHAHA. Also, all you people arguing about Chicago's landscape got a mention.
-The Tower (with a vengeance!). Story about having a crush on the guy who helped her record it the first time...
-In Another Life with a bit of the Nutcracker at the end. :)
-Stray Italian Greyhound contains a piano drill (but she doesn't practice much so it's "still hard")
-HELP IS ON THE WAY!!!!! SOOOOOO GLAD ALEX AND VIENNA PLAYED THE SONG THAT MADE VIENNA FIRST NOTICE ALEX!!!! That song usually makes me sad, but they sang oh so beautifully. I sang the harmony part that Devon does in the original recording. Probably not loud enough for everyone to hear but I tried my best.
-She admits pronouncing "Augustine" wrong.
-Antebellum: Referred to Eccles Center performance, during which she was high on "epinephrine nebulizer" which gave her back the voice but made her jumpy.
- HARBOR IN B-Flat!! My friend Chris, who had suggested the G-flat key at the Montalvo concert, was sitting close enough and Vienna saw him and remembered him. I yelled for B-flat because G-flat was too low for my taste  This was one of those encores where they don't leave the stage... "Oh, one more!"
- I showed Alex and Vienna the pictures I drew of them and they took pictures with them. Got my little spotlight moment. Met one of the people I tipped off about the show (she was sad that the Independent shows are 21+).

So awesome. So glad I made it into the room (as some people got turned away :( )Yayyyyyy!!!!

Disclaimer: I took these on my cell phone, so they're a bit lacking in quality. :P Not that I would take any better pictures with a really good camera anyway, but...

It sounds like it was a really fun show. Its a good thing Alex made it. Getting on flights can be hectic even if you don't have to get somewhere fast.

Yay! so she still has time read some of her forum, and even mentioned it at her concert. Thats funny.
