I thought the Braid version is the same as the backwards looper thing, as performed here at the Highline Ballroom show...also taped by Micro! ;)

I wonder if Vienna specifically looped this backwards because Braid is about manipulating time and going backwards to avoid mistakes. If so, then that's freaking brilliant and super geeky...which I love. :)

I nominate Vienna become a nerdfighter. Now.

Well, she probably *does* have super powers. She just disguises herself as a pianist/singer-songwriter to trick us all...

Um, anyway. For your reference, I found that the Braid version was first discussed by chiagin and Michele in the thread here.

braid version - the reverse piano loop; the forum seems to have named, by default, the last two version of Gravity.

SW cantina - Alex plays a few notes from that Star Wars scene on the melodica. You could hear several audience members whisper "Star Wars!"

Tower effects - Alex plays the guitar through some electronic effects (?) accompaning Vienna who is accompanied by herself on the looper. Also heard at Joe's Pub on the late set performance of The Tower last week. Don't know how long he's been doing it, but it works really well for this song.

The WHYY program has several of their past episodes streaming on-line so perhaps Vienna's will be up there in the future.

Guitar effects also heard at The Kate last week, although Vienna's vocal looper effects, which together with Alex's live vocal provided a rich multi-part harmony on the refrain (and which just blew me away!), were more prominent. During the playback, Vienna was moving her right hand back and forth between the keyboard and the control panel so fast she seemed to be multitasking as much as Alex usually does. The end result was fantastic. Leads me to hope that maybe someday when Pontchartrain gets back into the show lineup Vienna might have developed a looper approach to the "choral" interlude (which, I gather, was originally a studio multitracking effect rather than an actual chorus). That would be special. Anyway, music is moving in interesting directions (thanks in part to pioneers like Imogen Heap, I guess).
