Tonight Vienna and Alex put on an amazing show in quite a unique enviroment, since it's the first time Vienna has ever performed in an egg. Really, the building is quite bizarre looking. The Egg comes under the classification...."Looks weird, sounds great!" Good crowd, really into the performance.
Setlist:

Whatever You Want
Blue Caravan
Gravity..Vienna called it Braid version, with backwards looping..
Antebellum
In Another Life
In the Creases...Alex's song
Last Snowfall
No Gringo
Stray Italian Greyhound
City Hall
Harbor
The Tower
Grandmother Song.....Vienna requested the audience to stand, which lead to a rowdy, foot stompin' hand clapping, rendition.

No encore....think there was some time constraints with OtR to follow.
It was nice to hear No Gringo back in the playlist. I'm loving all the expanded loop vocals Vienna's throwing into Last Snowfall..it seems to evolve in so many ways...

Also the evolution of "The Tower" has appeared in the last two show..maybe more. I'd dub it the Tower, disco mix, for lack of a better name...it seems to have Alex's drum rhythm start the song on a looper...

Evidently, this the coolest venue name ever.

I've been there. Perfectly normal inside. Mighty odd outside. But Albany is a town of weird architecture. Check out the government buildings there: http://alloveralbany.com/images/nys_capital_from_ESP.jpg

Apparently so, for the same thing happened at The Kate the night before. There, the crowd gave Vienna and Alex an enthusiastic standing O after Grandmother Song; when they didn't reappear quickly, the applause evolved into rhythmic clapping, followed by rhythmic foot-stomping until the houselights came up full. I noticed that some self-described OtR fans joined in. It seemed pretty clear that no encore (or a tight time limit) was part of the deal for the series. Song number (13) was the same this time, too, with just one song change. I didn't time (or count) OtR's set (at The Kate, that is), but it didn't seem much longer than Vienna's; they took one encore. All in all, that show was probably about the same total length as a normal 2-act with a short opener and a long main set. (Just my impression; not based on data.) Vienna's song count for these shows was the same as for her headline set at Le Poisson Rouge that I saw in April (including encore); there, she had 2 openers.

After the Kate show Vienna said the sound man was supposed to turn up the house lights and put on music right after the last song...so he must have gotten distracted/forgotten/kidnapped by aliens(?)..hey, it could happen!

For a second there, I thought there was going to be a riot. Or, what would pass for a riot in staid Old Saybrook... there was certainly a fair amount of peevish harrumphing going on.

Yeah, there's no mistaking The Kate for a biker bar, for sure, but it's not just a Nutmeg State phenomenon. Same could be said for the Emelin and the Westhampton Beach PAC back in good old NY, where I also saw great VT shows this year.
