3Dec09: Great shows at Joe's!

Postby Scot » Fri Dec 04, 2009 6:25 pm

Actually, I meant to add this to the previous thread, but since I goofed - I'll go ahead and add a little more, here.

I was really fortunate to be able to tweak some work travel to spend a few days in NYC, catch some great music, and of course spend some time with some old and new Forum fans. The culmination, of course, were the Joe's shows- particularly the late show and the following party. Both Joe's sets were excellent, but the 2nd one seemed to be a bit more electric - there was something a bit more in the air - a great performance at a real intimate venue.

I heard three versions of the new Tower this trip (2 at Joe's last night and one at Tarrytown) and each one was better than the last. Starting with the Tower in the late show was great! These are going to be some great recordings for the live shows!

Enjoyed spending some time with Linus, Paul, Greg, Tom, Candace, Ben and the rest of the crazy VT fans. Not to mention the band and accompanying rock stars! :)

Can't believe I get to see them again in a few months, even!

A big thanks to the forum veterans for welcoming me into the fold at Joe's Pub. It was really nice to meet you guys. Highlights for me:

- The couches. As Digital mentioned in another post, it was super comfy. With all the electronic gadgets surrounding me on the couch, I felt right at home.

- Two servings of "The Tower."

- Watching Alex Wong admire Ari Hest hitting the high notes in "Last Snowfall."

- Using the lighter app on my iPhone during "Soon Love Soon" at Vienna Teng's request. I'm not sure if she saw it, though.

- Discovering that nobody really knows anything about Ang Mo.

- "Achoo" (which I think is Hawaiian for applause?). If you don't know what I'm talking about, just wait until you get the CD and then listen for the quietest part of the show.

- "Recessional" (I said "Oh my God" as she started. I hope it wasn't picked up by the microphones).

- "Idioteque" was intense.

- Keytar Tour 2010!!!!

- Watching Amy Cox orchestrate everything.

- Alex Wong's Tour Hat.

- Actually closing down a bar in NYC.

- Meeting Scott, Paul, Linus, Greg, Ben, Candace, and the other forum and non-forum people.

Looking forward to The Kate tomorrow. Then I have to think about having a wider travel radius for live performances. You guys put me to shame.

Ang Mo is like a unicorn. A beautiful and majestic creature, but one nobody knows anything about. Or very little about. We all know Unicorns have horns.

Just like we all know about Ang Mo's affiliation with Diet Coke.

I'd have to agree with a lot of those highlights, Tom. I'd add - Tom nudging me to look at Alex looking at Ari singing the high notes with Vienna during the Last Snowfall (which I had noticed, as well, but didn't know if anyone else had appreciated until the nudge!) :)

As for the sneeze- well, maybe I can finally be on a VT record now!
Sorry, future sound-editor. ;}
