WUKY to air Vienna's Nashville show on 10/05/09 also online

Postby Kwon2m » Mon Oct 05, 2009 2:49 am

Hey I just saw that NPR station WUKY will be airing Vienna's recent Nashville show tomorrow night, 10/05/09, at 8pm. See http://viennateng.com/2009/10/lexington-ky-show-broadcast/
or http://www.wuky.org/

I don't know if I'll be able to catch this online, but maybe some of you folks can be there.

Just listened to it. Great solo show. I liked the use of the audience for Alex's part in Antebellum (altho they were not very audible--presumably they weren't miked), and her vocal in that seemed especially good, too. Only gripe was that vocals in the early songs were a bit buried under the keyboard, until evidently the person at the sound board raised the vox. Then, fine to the end.

Cool, Fred. I only had time to listen to the first twenty minutes or so. Bummer. Knowing I wouldn't have much time, I made a last minute
uneducated effort to record it, but it didn't work out. I'll have to do my home work for future such things.

Well, at least I got to see Vienna live in Westhampton Beach in July. She was just wonderful. That was my first VT concert, but certainly not my last.

You picked a mighty good show to start with, is all I can say. My third, and the best of the three. And I *loved* that theater. In fact, I'm going back Saturday, to see Richard Thompson and Loudon Wainwright III.

Thanks, Linus! I was hoping some intrepid VT fan would record it and make it available. Now I can put it in my iPod and listen when I have time. Take care. :D

It was my first time at WHBPAC, too. Very nice small venue. I only have two bones to pick with them. First, they typically charge way too much for most of the shows they have there. Vienna was a bargain. Second, they were really adamant about no cameras. Sigh, I just like to take a souvenir photo or two. Other than that, it's a great place to see a show on Long Island.

The Bolton Center in Bayshore is nice as well, and much more reasonably priced. I'm still in mourning over the demise of the IMAC, though. :(

You're right. Richard Thompson/Loudon Wainwright is costing me TWICE as much per ticket as Vienna did. And for Vienna's show I was in the front row literally right in front of her piano bench, while on Saturday I'm in the 2nd row of the balcony. (Both are top price; almost the whole theater is top price.) And to magnify the effect, I went to Vienna's show solo, but my wife and daughter are coming along on Saturday.

I've been meaning to check out Boulton; just waiting for the right show at a good time. Just missed Marshall Crenshaw there, iirc, because of my work schedule. That would have been nice. I *might* try to catch him at Tarrytown in Nov, opening for Mavis Staples. (But probably not. Tarrytown seems a long way away on a weeknight. We are so spoiled in the NY area compared to these hardy midwesterners who seem to travel hours for most of their shows.)

My first and last show at IMAC was last November; Richard Shindell and Ollabelle, performing merged. Good, unusual show. It seemed like a friendly, funky place. I liked the proprietors' dog hanging out in the bar lobby. Too bad it folded. If you like a good dinner before a show (who doesn't?), Huntington is a great restaurant town.
