What should the short name of the new version of Gravity be?

She's a helluva chef. Interpretation, praise, criticism ...

I would really like a recording of Vienna's new version of Gravity. I heard it when she played in Northampton and it really struck a chord with me. It was fantastic.

Has anyone gotten a recording of it?

a) Of course we're groupies!

b) There's a wonderful recording of the new version of Gravity floating around somewhere on Archive.org. Mine is from the Easton, MD show, there might be a better one though.

I just noticed my usage of "floating" next to "Gravity" and giggled, because I am a loser.

chris jones posted a wonderful recording of the two shows at Joe's Pub, NY which you can find here:

I will also be working to get the SF show recording up very soon... sometime by the end of next week if everything goes as planned.

Hmmm... maybe if we involve physics...

Postby Portland-first-3 » Thu May 17, 2007 12:14 am

This may turn out to be a physics problem.

Hmmm...

How about the "Fig Newtonian" version?

More seriously:
there's a phenom in the universe called a "gravity wave" - that's where if something dramatic happens in the universe, like a star explosion or something, a gravity wave can result and flow outward just like ripples in a pond when you throw a rock in it.

Or something like that. Go google it for a better description than I can give. :)

Soooo... we get the "Gravity Wave" version perhaps?

Or... we can honor a great physicist who was known for also playing drums and bongos: Richard Feynman.

The version of Gravity I saw featured percussion.

Sooooo... just call it The Feynman Version - that would be quite an honor to add to an already great song. :)

but waves are a saltwater thing....whitewater or rapids would fit better with the freshwater theme.

But whitewater or rapids just don't roll off the tongue as nicely as "wave". In fact, you don't even need to use your tongue at all to say "wave"!

How about Ripple?

That combines things.

Waves are a saltwater thing, a freshwater thing, a sound thing (sound waves, of course), a light thing (light wave), a way to greet someone at a distance (I wave at you), an influence thing ("the new approach spread like a wave across the nation")... AND it's a gravity thing too.

It's a little word containing some very big concepts. :)

I like "Wave" version as a name for this hybrid/new version of Gravity. It just sounds cool! :D

you know the first things that came into my out-of-whack mind when i heard this version?

1) what you see in the sink/bathtub when you pull the drain plug. slowly, building energy rushing in a whirlpool then settling down slowly.
2) what you see when you flush a toilet. same description as above. and no, no manure included
3) (i'd rather not add this one, it's a tad err.. raunchy? lol)

Actually I was thinking of... gravity and black holes, which are sinks. Yeah, I'm nerdy.

But bathroom related works too. ;)
