Seattle,WA - Chop Suey 2/11/2007 (opening for Glen Phillips)

With two of the awesomest musicians of all time playing together on the same night at the same place, what more could one ask for? Tonight's show was definitely well worth the trip and a great way for me to spend my birthday. ;)

Without further ado...

1. Whatever You Want
2. My Medea
3. Unwritten Letter #1
4. Gravity Lake
5. Blue Caravan (dedicated to Gwen ... from LA?)
6. A Midsummer Night's Dream (Noe Venable Cover)
7. Love Turns 40 (by request)
8. Harbor
9. City Hall
10. Green Island Serenade (a cappella)

Unfortunately, I am unfamiliar with Glen's music so I don't have his setlist. During his set, however, Vienna appeared for two songs:
1. Last Sunset
2. Maya

Oh, and Glen introduced Vienna before she got on stage at the very beginning... and said the nicest things... Vienna said, "I think that's the longest series of adjectives I've ever heard anyone use to describe me." And oh they were good ones. :)

I took a bunch of pictures with my low-quality but faithful and trusty S45, but since I didn't bring my USB cable with me, I won't be able to unload them until I get back in Boston tomorrow night. Stay tuned! :)

Thanks for posting the setlist Calvin and for hanging out with us last night at the show.

One of the really cool things about this show was that the loudest request was for what I think was the only currently active song Vienna hadn't performed solo yet, Love Turns 40. Vienna pulled it off easily and I think she could probably add it to her normal solo set with no problems.

It was also a really great moment to see Vienna and Glen perform together. One of Glen's first experiences in being introduced to Vienna was her cover of "Maya" (a version of which is posted on the VT YouTube for anyone interested who hasn't already seen it), and it was really great to be able to see them perform that song together.

The crowd was again really into Vienna at this show. At one point she said something about it being an honor and a pleasure to open for Glen and someone in the crowd shouted "He should be opening for you!"

And I forgot to say this in my earlier post, but thanks to Erik and Michele for the great company before/during/after the show. It definitely makes the experience that much more enjoyable to be there you guys. :)

I ultimately decided against getting the MIT socks because they just looked too plain and kind of ugly. ;( So instead, as the photos suggest, I got her a pair of Boston Red Sox socks (except they're pink!) and a pair of snuggle socks branded by Life is Good. The snuggle socks are particularly awesome. :D

nice...though i would have gone with yankees socks. not only are they the best franchise, but she's gonna get harrassed in nyc if she wears those pink red sox socks.

so, with all those forum people planning on going to the nyc shows, should we suggest to vienna not to bring any extra socks with her?

Even if Vienna paid no attention to sports whatsoever, I think she'd know not to wear those in NYC. Unless she likes playing the part of the rebel, which some people do. 8)

(How can anyone root for the Yankees? It's like rooting for bubonic plague. Though I can understand people in other parts of the country who lump the Red Sox and Yanks together as rich, overspending teams that are ruining the rest of baseball. I grew up in Pittsburgh, after all, where the Pirates haven't had a winning season in my oldest nephew's lifetime - and he's in high school! :( )

hey...don't hate. i grew up watching the yankees play, through the good times and the bad. and besides, the yankees pay the other teams so much money through the luxury tax and that money is supposed to be used by the other teams to make themselves better. it's not their fault the other teams are too cheap and decide to pocket the money instead.

it would be a dream to watch a yankee game with vienna (there is no stadium atmosphere that can compare to yankee stadium) and watching her sing during the 7th inning stretch and maybe the pregame....they used to have concerts there...hmm....

Postby montner13 » Wed Feb 14, 2007 12:40 am

Did anyone by chance see if anyone was recording Glen's set at Chop Suey on Sunday?

Nobody was doing video for Glen, at least. But I believe the audio was recorded by Glen himself or someone else...

Actually, I wouldn't be so sure. We shot a video of me giving her the socks, and when she was describing each of them to the camera, she referred to the Sox socks as "socks with pink B's on them"... haha. But I'm sure someone will let her know what the deal is soon enough, if she hasn't already figured it out from looking at this thread. ;)

And she can always wear them when she comes to Boston this April! :D
