I recorded a guitar solo over Stray Italian Greyhound!(Mp3)

Postby StevenConverse » Tue Jun 09, 2009 6:09 am

Hey there, Vienna Teng fans. I was stoked about Inland Territory for the longest time, and even now that it is out, I still enjoy listening to it just as much as the first time. One of the songs, Stray Italian Greyhound seemed like it had a perfect part for a guitar solo type thing, only it was a bit too short. So, to fix this, I looped it twice in Audacity. Last night, I was particularly inspired for some reason, and so I spent a couple hours working on a solo for it.

Here is the final result:

I would like some feedback(from Vienna would be totally awesome and surprising) from you guys! In my opinion, the solo probably is a little much in context of the song, but it's definitely listenable. To be perfectly honest, if I ever got to work with Vienna, my life would be complete and I could die a happy man...but that goes without saying, right? Anyway, I'll let the solo speak for itself. I originally was just going to send this to Vienna but I realized my chances of getting feedback are slim. I'd never pass up a chance, though! :)

Proof that I should probably pick up a guitar and start a-learnin'.

Because in all basicness, thats probably the most epic thing i've ever heard layered onto a Vienna song.

- Waouah, I'm impressed ! It sounds great like beautiful big musical fireworks ! What kind of guitar is it ?
Is there any way to download it so as to have it in my mp3 walkman ?

I think Eric and Michele or Ginny should add a new category in the "Sound Food" section : why not adding "Fans cooking for Vienna" or something like that (any ideas for the title ?...) near "Vienna 's Kitchen" and "Other Fine Cuisine" ?

I know that there is Larosity who did some covers of Vienna's songs on Youtube : he sings with his own style with his guitar and I'm glad to enjoy his own approach of the songs.

- who knows in a few years, you may experience as Eric Cheng who discovered Vienna and some years later he played with her ...

Let's see...a few years...I will be in the middle of college. :) I would gladly put that on hold if I were to be so lucky as to play with my favorite artist, though! I'll keep dreaming about it, haha. They sure seem like they have a lot of fun on tour...and it'd be awesome to contribute something to her music. A dream come true.

That is pretty awesome. The only thing is, it's out of place with the rest of it...so now I want to hear the whole song electric-style.

I would have never guessed that Stray Italian Grayhound would get electric before White Light. *grin*

What I really wish is that Vienna / Rounder would post the individual tracks of one or more songs. I've always been intrigued by the idea of remixing but can't play with the song as much as I'd like. (I had an abortive project to mix Watershed with Linkin Park's The Little Things Give You Away. The two songs work very well together, but the particular recordings...)

Anyway, that was quite cool. Glad you decided to share it.

i... i... i'm envious. all i can do is write stories with her songs as a background or basis or both (i'll be posting one in the link in my sig below soon; i just have to get things off my plate and i'll finish the draft). /wrist

lol i keed. good work there. i remember the time when The Tower was reggae-fied. now i want to hear a Vienna Teng tribute album akin to what a lot of people did for Beatles favorites.

and the coolest part of that idea is that vienna will rock out too. ah well. dreaming is free eh?

Yeah, I acknowledge it's a bit out of place with the song. However, the reason for that is that if people(especially Vienna) were to listen, I would want them to have a mixture between a "that sounds really nice" reaction and a general "wow" reaction. A balance between musicality and technicality, if you will. Especially if Vienna were to listen, which is who I initially sent this too, I would want her to be impressed, you know? Thanks for the constructive criticism, though.

Also, to a previous poster...My gear is an Ernie Ball Music Man John Petrucci signature 7-string and a Mesa Boogie Mark IV 4x12. I've been working since the middle of my Sophmore year to pay that stuff off...and I still owe $700! I'm going into my senior year now.

Thanks for the feeback thus far, guys(and gals?). More is appreciated,

What do you know, White Light is already at least a bit electric. I guess it's because I saw it live with mainly just the electric keyboard. *grin*

@arcsol: I'd like to hear one of those.

A guitar solo should be an addition for the next live performance of this song :)

At least the way you played it.
