Letterman Video

Postby marathonmark » Fri Jul 25, 2008 11:29 pm

Hi all,

I'm wondering if there is a video of Vienna's performance on David Letterman from a few years back that is available on this site or other fan sites, YouTube, etc. So far, I haven't been able to find one.

I've never seen the performance and was hoping I could view it somewhere.

Thanks for any help,

Mark

if you search on google video with the terms: letterman vienna teng, you will find it, (but don't know how long it will be there).

Vienna on Letterman

Postby Folkfan » Fri Aug 08, 2008 5:30 am

Thanks, Micro, for posting the information to find Vienna performing, "Gravity"...I've always wondered how the Letterman performance was....Brilliant, as usual....I love Letterman's introduction to Waking Hour.....something like..."it's a great CD, I've listened to all of it, and there is not a dud on there".
I think after going to Google video, it took me to tv.mofile.com.
Any idea of how to save that to computer? I think I sent it back to my email address. thanks again, Folkfan

Thanks for the video. I, too, have always wanted to see Vienna's Letterman performance. It certainly was a milestone achievement for her to be on Letterman and I'm glad it helped spread word about her talent.

She sounds kind of nervous in this performance, though, heh! Understandably. She also wavers off-tune a bit, which surprised me. But again, that's understandable, as it was broadcast to millions of viewers.

Still, her voice is nice and velvety. I also love how she's smiling. It looks like she's trying to edge off the nerves and enjoy herself. Letterman should invite Vienna back for her 4th album release because, like a fine bottle of wine, Vienna only proves to get better and better every year! :)

Haha, yeah, she does sound nervous. But she's still amazing - the way she performs with a smile on her face, the passion in her voice and her piano-playing.

Letterman should invite Vienna back for her 4th album release because, like a fine bottle of wine, Vienna only proves to get better and better every year!

I love it when Letterman says "there's not a dud on it" because...well...it's true. It's awesome to see an artist progress and see how some things stayed the same.

Thank-you so much, micro for the link...and sorry for taking so long to reply.

I had checked the site for a few days after and then forgot about it...but I'm very glad to have remembered now. It's great to be able to watch and hear the clip.

Oh, Vienna. You've come so far. This was the first time I'd ever seen the video; It would never load before. It's weird to look back and say "Whoa. She was on TV." I think she should be on TV again.

My initial reaction from this video was; "She has really nice teeth."

Do you think she had braces?

I just watched the video for the first time (having read about it for years), and one thing I'm wondering -- was she playing over a backing track or was Letterman's band playing along?

At 0:50 you can see some band members behind her, and at places like 2:45 you can see them playing in the reflection on the top of the piano.

Brings back nice memories. Now to find the Wayne Brady show link!

This article led me to believe that the CBSO accompanied her live:

http://www.metroactive.com/papers/metro ... -0422.html

More specifically this passage:

"Teng and the Late Show band killed 'Gravity,' and she and David awkwardly embraced at the end of the song, momentarily replacing Minnelli and Gest as mismatched couple of the year."

Indeed a somewhat awkward embrace and "kiss of the hand" by Dave at the end, there. Particulary now, knowing about his recent revelations regarding his extracurricular "activities".

I'd never seen that. She looks so young! Thanks for sharing the link.
