We're live from Normandale Community College in beautiful and sunny Bloomington, Minnesota for the Alex Wong duo show featuring Vienna Teng.

The cool thing about colleges... free wi-fi. And free shows in their cafeteria.

Musicians:
Alex Wong: vocals, cajon, acoustic guitar, glockenspiel (Bianca and her quickly repaired TSA damaged mallets), drum, cymbal, tamborine, pedals, looped live samples, shaker

Vienna Teng: vocals, nord stage keyboard, Amber Rubarth impersonation hat, melodica

Setlist:
Soundcheck (featuring ("Space, the final frontier"), ("tuning and plugging things in"), "parts of 1BR/1BA", "Motion Sickness", "The Drive", "Good to Be Here", "A Girl Like You")
Good to Be Here
Whatever You Want
(how Whatever You Want fits into Culture Fest)
Gravity
Motion Sickness (world premiere Wong song)
The Drive
Stray Italian Greyhound (world premiere Vienna Teng song)
(Tales of the TSA)
(Vienna impersonates Amber Rubarth)
Safe in the Sound (world premiere Wong/Amber Rubarth song)
Unwritten Letter #1
(whoo royalties)
Brooklyn Blurs
How to Get By
Hope on Fire
(Holland says "Alex Wong looks like a centipede")
I Don't Feel So Well
In the Creases (world premiere Wong/Amber Rubarth song)
Idioteque (Radiohead cover)
1BR/1BA
Harbor

*-thank you to the man in blue for lending me his joby pod
** - edited December 22, 2007 1:01pm to add "Stray Italian Greyhound" as a properly titled song.

No snagging to be had for this particular performance, by request. I'm sure that future performances will get an OK, as In the Creases already has. I just wish that vid from Monmouth had Vienna wearing the hat that channels Amber's presence :D

Actually, I was looking at my bad pics (dark in there) and just realized I should take some better stills from the vid. And then, at least a little amount of snag can happen...

Alex announced tonight that the name of the band whose EP will feature In the Creases, Motion Sickness, Brooklyn Blurs and Safe in the Sound may be "Paper Raincoat."

Discuss.

I watched it twice and didn't see Vienna! I looked carefully in the background the second time.

The Paper Raincoat's MySpace now lists their two EP release show dates:

Monday, March 3, 2008 at Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles and Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at The Canal Room in New York City.

They will also be playing residency shows with Vienna Teng on the first three Tuesdays in March (4th, 11th and 18th) at Rockwood Music Hall in New York.

And they will be headed off to Sweden, France and the UK shortly thereafter...

Here's Vienna's quote about the Rockwood residency:
"Expect new material, offbeat covers and lots of lead vocal switching among the three songwriters... "
