Antebellum

Postby Lirulin » Thu Aug 07, 2008 3:53 pm

Heard Antebellum last night at Vienna's concert in Chicago...amazing. My boyfriend thought it was the best song in the show, even. It's still echoing in my head today. Any ideas on interpretation of the lyrics? I have a vague idea that it could be about divorce (as the 'war'), but it doesn't seem to fit quite perfectly.

Oh, God, I know!!! It makes me so anxious for her new CD... Best song on it, so far!!

Ive been singing it to myself the whole day!

Well, my interpretation (And yes, its a very selfish and presumptuous one, at that) I sit was about a feud between two people who were once friends.

Yay for being presumptuous!

"Antebellum", to me, is like an evolved form of "Gravity."

("ViennaTeng has gained 6343EXP! ViennaTeng learned Antebellum!")
"You've made us swear our souls to you
And blamed us for your poisoned grace."

Zomigosh... i sense some sort of World of Warcraft hint there..

or pokemon... Pikaaaaachu!

Anywho, now that you mention it, it is reminiscent of Gravity... Very much in the interpretation, but also in the way that it doesnt leave your head for quite some time.

=D

Well, when the time comes, im sure you will love it. When I first saw the lyrics they seemed a bit dicey, and didnt look like they fit well.

The song prtty much trumped that idea. Its beautiful. I can wait to hear the whole orchestral version on the CD XD

It's amazing what awesome musical accompaniment can do for lyrics. I wasn't sold on the song by the lyrics alone, but now that I've heard the music for it, I'm utterly in love with both the lyrics and the music. I've been listening to my recording of it on repeat at various intervals over the past few days while roadtripping with the family to Canuck-side Niagara Falls, and I desperately want to try my hand at eking out a passable cover for my own amusement and muzakal edumacation. .____.;;

Muzakal Edumacaton? Really?

XD

See, i would try to recover what parts of the piano i can remember, if i wasnt in such awe of the song. I honestly think its the best shes ever written (Woah, is Roofboy using favoritism??) x3

I cant stop singing the chorus... mostly because its the ony part i remember, but really "Antebellum Innocence"

I smell a album title ^(o.o)^

i heard her play it at a solo concert at williams (i think she said it was the first time she'd played it in concert, perhaps) and adored it. i still love the version my friend recorded at the music festival in michigan last week, but i am skeptical of alex wong singing in it. he has a lovely voice and all, but i'll take vienna's every time. also the piano-only version had a lovely simplicity to it that echoed the theme. i'm sure it will be epic and wonderful in the album version anyway.

I dunno. I think it's one of those "first thing you hear becomes your favorite" kind of things.

I've also heard Vienna perform it solo (and do a spectacular job of it as well, in spite of a frog too), but without the marching drumbeat it's really missing something pretty big. :P

While Vienna still graciously allows us to record her performances of all her new songs, sharing recordings of unreleased songs is generally a no-no. :P

Im thinking that if there's ever an Antebellum Music video, Alex Wong should do a cameo as a drummer boy ;D

Antebellum has become an instant favourite for me. Ever since it was performed at the Triple Door.

I think this may well be the first single from Inland Territory.

Does anyone know what key this is in?
I believe in airplanes.
