Gravity (Lake Version)

Postby byranbu » Fri Jan 12, 2007 3:14 am

I know somebody has the answer to this deep question I have been meditating on tonight. What makes Gravity (Lake Version) the Lake Version? Why not the wind version or the Diet Coke version? Is there a reason behind this name for the song other than "just because"? Enquiring minds want to know. :D

slower, more lightly flowing, lingering as opposed
to faster, rapidly flowing, burbling, etc.

Make any sense? ;)

Like a river, perhaps? ;) The regular Gravity has been called the River Version.

Actually, the regular Gravity version reminds me of a small waterfall: the melody trickles, and flows smoothly, and everything's all fine and dandy and then BAM it falls and crashes (in a good way).

Thanks guys, I had forgotten that the album version was called the River Version. Of course it could have been the Diet Coke Version and the Caffeine Free Diet Coke Version in honor of Ang Mo. :)

That's hilarious.

I only recently realized that the CD version is a.k.a. the "river" version. Until then I thought that "lake" referred to a place or something. But then I found out about its "river" counterpart and it was like, whoa, epiphany!

Oops- and yes, I did fail to mention that in my response....

Where're the Ocean and Niagra versions, though? :>

I rather think a Fountain version has a certain ring to it. :)

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who was unaware of this, but I found a recorded version of Gravity Lake on the old VT website that I stumbled across the other day... there's also a nice recording of Waking Hour there as well.

Just in case someone else, like me, wasn't around during the v1 of the website (and oh how I wish I was back then!) and didn't ever stumble across the old website, here are the links:

Sorry, I'm resurrecting a very old thread! But, thanks so much for this. I've been looking for a legit mp3 of the lake version all over the place. This really made my day!

Does anybody know if there is an official, legally released mp3 version of Vienna integrating the river and lake versions together? Are they supposed to stay separate so that she only does that for her concerts? Both are awesome, but it's SO beautiful when she has some of the river in the lake version.

By the way, hi. I'm new here. I've been a lurker and fan for some time. :)

Glad you found what you were looking for. :) Unfortunately, there's no studio recording of the new Gravity (official or unofficial) at this time - at least not to anybody's knowledge. The concert recordings are all "legally released" though, and one of my favorite recordings of it still remains to be the one from May '07 at the Palace of Fine Arts:

Welcome to the Forums, Kalenabear!
After being hooked by Gravity (river), I lurked here for over 2 years before I finally signed up.

No need to be sorry: many of the older posts are well worth re-reading from time to time.

This is so much Alex' version of Gravity that I can't imagine it without him.
I believe it first appeared when Vienna was joined by Alex on percussion.

If you haven't already done so, browse through the What should the short name of the new version of Gravity be? thread, which suggested names (I particularly liked Ripple and River Bend) for this enhanced/entranced hybrid version.

Some of the more recent posts there link to mp3 (on archive.org) and to YouTube videos of live performances.

There is another mp3 in chris_jones' recording of Vienna's 6 September 2007 New York concert at Mo Pitkin's which he's posted on archive.org.
