V4

Postby Eric » Sun May 17, 2009 12:23 am

Hi, folks.

So viennateng.com is now in its v4 incarnation. I invite you to check it out and offer some feedback here. There are still some quirks and graphical changes to be made, but it should be more or less serviceable on

- Safari
- Firefox 3
- IE6
- IE7

I have not tested on IE8 yet. Some poking around in Opera revealed some wonkiness with some of the javascript toys.

Anyway, let me know what problems you run into!

thanks,
Eric

ps: The forum is badly in need of re-skinning. Definitely aware of this and hope to get to it soon.

I really like the textures on the graphics! It reflects the new album well.

Very urban. Much different than the last website layout, but loveable all the same.

Something i noticed, nothing big, but Inland Territory is in the Clothing section of the merch page. Dunno if you guys or Choice Merchandise are in charge of that, but thought i might bring it up.

Hi Eric,

Any chance of bringing back the tour archive? I use it all the time to
check/verify/supplement/etc. entries to my TengBase.

thanks,

Hey Scot, you can use V3 meantime.

Thanks, Michele.
I actually figured that out shortly after making that post. Thanks, though!
I remembered that V1 was still around so guessed that V3 still was, too.
I'm glad and I think keeping the old sites alive is a good idea, too. :)

I second the idea of keeping the old versions around. Or at least, the gratitude that is expressed that they are still there. I've seen other artists completely revamp their sites, and invariably some information gets lost. This way, the old Tengheads can always find what they are looking for.

Now, if you could find a way to convert the old ones to skins, so we could pick which album we want to browse the site in, that would be awesome!

Oh, I didn't check out this topic... should have put the same remark here long time ago... don't want to be pushy ...

Eric,

Great job! Of course there are some small issues:

The VTlog (blog item #3) demands Flash on Android, and Android no longer supports Flash (which is good, of course). Seems to have the same problem on iOS.

The cloned-and-updated Bio has an anachronistic quip from Vienna about Wikipedia using a pic of her with a guitar but she's only played one on stage twice. Of course she's a guitar hero now.

The v3 and v4 nomenclature is confusing. Above you call this site v4 but the Inland Territory-era site is v4.viennateng.com. This is something we'll just get used to, I imagine.

Will re-skinning the forum include making it mobile-friendly? A Facebook friend tells me that there is a server-side plug-in for phpBB that does that.

The disappearance of the scrapbook was an inevitable recognition of what's already happened. Moving the Facebook feed to the front page might ameliorate that. BTW adding the Facebook feed was a really good idea.

[Edit] Also noticed that although the comment links on blog entries appear live, they don't work, or are disabled, or I have a Firefox issue; not sure which. I don't see any comments from others, so I'm guessing they are either disabled or dysfunctional and it's not just me.

Really great job by you, Vienna, Michele, and whoever else was involved! (It's visually stunning.) Thanks!

Fred

PS This is more in the nature of advice to other users than a request. The old site (v4.viennateng.com) now contains a bunch of broken internal jump links caused by address relocation of the target pages. If you just manually add "v4." at the beginning of the url in the address line of the missing page when the 404 error message comes up, you get to the page you want.
