no "open link in new window" option for top menu l

Postby Walking Stranger » Fri Mar 06, 2009 2:06 pm

Hi,
I'm not geeky enough about web-mastering so here are some questions about the menu tab links :

- why when right clicking on the top frame menu tab of VT website, there is no "open link in new window" option ?
Is it because it is impossible to do so in flash design settings ?

- BTW, the different sections of the top frame menu are available at the bottom of each page :

listen | news | tour | discography | contact | mailing list | gallery | bio | scrapbook | forum | links | merch

with "open link in new window" option when right clicking on the link, except for those links below :

http://viennateng.com/forum/ -> maybe no need to put a bottom menu at this page ?
http://www.scarabcart.com/cgi-bin/viennateng/index.cgi -> no bottom menu

Have a nice day,
WSFF

The "open link in new window" or "open link in new tab" functions are from your browser, not the website you are visiting. When you use flash content, it's click settings take precedence, and you do not get the normal browser options. It would be impossible for a flash developer to implement this feature because of the sheer number of potential browsers being used. Flash makes for some pretty animations and websites, but it's still got its limitations.

The missing bottom link bar on those two pages is for two reasons. First, because the forum page is generated separately from the rest of the website by a php script. It's likely they could add the bar to the bottom, but I haven't spent enough time with the software to know for sure. In the second instance, the merch page is a completely separate website (as the url showcases). Since you don't necessarily come to it from Vienna's site, it would not make much sense to have the link bar at the bottom.

Hope that helps.
