"88 Acres: How Microsoft Quietly Built the City of the Future"
Came across this today (via Daring Fireball). Microsoft hooks all their utilities up to a central computer, analyzes the data that comes in, and saves millions of dollars in energy costs. Struck me as something Vienna would appreciate: using tech and data analysis to save energy, almost for free. And energy costs money, so this is an easy incentive to be more environmentally friendly.
(Of course, there is the danger of becoming Mostly Harmless's "climate control". Though my office windows already don't open.)
