Re: This week's Movie review......

I've seen four films this year that made quite an impression. The first, The Wrecking Crew, is a documentary about the brilliant but anonymous recording session musicians from the fifties, sixties, and seventies. You hear them on any number of hit songs. Quite often, they were the reason a song beca...

Been Ten Years

Ten years ago today, I first heard Vienna on NPR's Weekend Edition Saturday. At that time, I thought she was a genius. Ten years later, I have even more respect and admiration for her. It's been an amazing decade.

Re: Who should direct Vienna Teng's new music video's

My choice would be Alice Wu, the brilliant writer-director of Saving Face. Like Vienna, she is a Bay Area native/Stanford Computer Science grad/software engineer/quit-to-pursue-creative-artist-dreams/transplanted-to-Brooklyn person. Who better to direct a Vienna video?

Re: This week's Movie review......

Over the past two weeks, San Francisco's Roxie Theater has held its semi-annual Film Noir Festival. Two glorious weeks of gritty black and white cinematography; edgy, jazzy, avante-garde music scores; tough-talking detectives and tougher-talking dames; passion, betrayal, impending doom, despair, and...

You're right Scot, they moved to a larger venue just up the street. Very nice place. But I'll always miss the old location. Great memories. I'll never forget seeing Vienna perform there in June '04. The management said she was the only artist who sold out The Freight in her debut.

Anna Graceman

A few days ago I found this link to an amazing young 11-year old singer-songwriter. Holy smokin' Moses, the girl has some serious talent: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM0-gRW-g2s&feature=relmfu I'm willing to bet we'll hear a lot more from here in the coming years. I just hope success doesn't ...

It was great to see Vienna and Alex again. As much as I enjoyed the December show at the Great American Music Hall, I wished at the time it had featured more of Vienna and Alex. Tonight's show was just what the doctor ordered. Vienna and Alex were in top form. In addition to sounding wonderful, Vien...

I actually find her piano playing to be just as amazing as her voice. Agreed with beautifulvice. That's what makes Vienna Teng stand out to me - she's both an accomplished vocalist and pianist. If she did an entire album of just piano instrumentals (didn't she do such a thing back in her high schoo...

That's DOCTOR Ginny to you, pal! :)

It's official, folks: Earlier this week, our esteemed forum moderator Ginny successfully defended her doctoral dissertation. We wretched peasants will now address her (in properly grave tones of deference and respect) as DOCTOR Ginny! In fact, I'd say some bowing and scraping is in order. :) I just ...

I have been fighting depression for a while. I finally had to take drastic measures and lock myself in a room for two weeks and listen to the theme song from the tv show Mannix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF_49tWPNWA over and over again. The music of Lalo Schifrin is simply incredible! I feel as...

At long long last, the west coast forum pic ! (To complement the east coast pic from the DVD taping.) We need to Photoshop some missing people in there, though... ;) Identifying most (but not all) of the people in Michele's photo: (My apologies to those I have yet to meet): Row 1, left to right: Un...

Man, what I wouldn't give to hear Vienna perform Ravel's "Sonatine." It's my favorite piano piece of all time. I'm pretty sure I've heard traces of Ravel in some of Vienna's songs.
