Hi Meggie, and thanks for your post about the show. It is fun to hear someone's story about that first hearing, and their enjoyment of her other songs on the CDs. Next time you get to a show, go up to the table and talk to her. If you are thinking about her buckets of talent, and how in control and ...

I haven't read Positively Fourth Street, but thanks for the recommendation rahau, I will read it. Vienna's music is sui generis but it does share some things with the work of some of the folk music icons.

Thanks for posting the link to the photos Kenji.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think Vienna looks like the young Joan Baez?

Thanks B-Flat for posting your story about first hearing Vienna on Lianne Hanson's NPR Weekend Edition. That resonated with me because that was my introduction to Vienna's music, although it was in the followup interview about a year later (3/07/04). I was listening to the radio outside while pullin...

Thanks jazzfrac for posting the link to the awards, and the results. And congratulations to Vienna on her supremely well deserved award! She IS great, and thankfully it is beginning to be noticed. Fitting that the award was for songwriting, where she shines above all others, although I can think of ...

Vienna Teng and Joan Baez iTunes had a feature on Joan Baez last Tuesday. Listening to samples took me back years to when I first heard Ms. Baez. Her voice was something of a miracle, a pure soprano with the beauty, clarity, and finesse to stop you in your tracks. (Listen to the 30 second samples of...

One thing I am surprised hasn't yet been mentioned is the improved security achieved by avoiding IE. That is often the first thing on the list of benefits listed by those who have left IE behind. Not much of an issue on the Mac platform, but a pretty big issue on PCs. As your mother told you, don't ...

Fine idea! Besides her talent, Vienna has a life story that I think would be of great interest, and recalling her NPR interview and her skills as a storyteller and conversationalist, she would be a great interviewee.

What is the email address?

Thanks for the fine review dnquark; it was short and simple, but made me feel like I had been there. I wish I really had, since I would give a lot to hear and see Vienna sing Passage as you described. Thanks also for the comparative comment on Vienna's professionalism then and now. This is the compe...

Thanks for your comments and picture Locks and MannyQ, and for your well written review Anne. I am glad to see Vienna adding a few covers to her live performances (it shows her versitility), even though I share your wish to hear the next the next VT song or CD, soon love soon.

Wow. You have to be tough in this business.
Fortunately, Vienna is plenty tough, lotus flower with steel spine.

I agree that Vienna's music shines because of the combination of the elements listed in the poll, but where is she most impressive? I would pick lyrics as the standout. My evidence: it has been 10 years (almost a decade and one!) since I cared enough about the exact words of a song to listen over an...
